How we structure a workshop
Every session follows the same core arc, whether it's a single afternoon or a multi-week program.
Start with a real system
We look at an actual AI tool students already use or recognize — not an abstract example.
Unpack the data behind it
Where did the training data come from, and whose experiences does — or doesn't — it represent?
Discuss who's affected
Students connect the technical to the human — who benefits, who's overlooked, and why it matters.
Reflect & take action
Students leave with questions to ask of any AI tool — and often, ideas for their own projects.
Research on AI systems has repeatedly shown that models can reflect and even amplify the biases present in the data used to train them — from facial recognition to hiring tools to content recommendations. Most students interact with these systems daily, but few are ever taught to recognize this. That's the gap we're built to close.
